Carlo Ancelotti breaks Zinedine Zidane record

As reported by AS, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has surpassed former Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane in the number of wins while in charge of the 14-time Champions League and European Cup winners.

Madrid had to come from behind to beat Real Sociedad in La Liga at the revamped Santiago Bernabéu this weekend with goals from Federico Valverde and Joselu after Ander Barrenetxea gave the hosts an early lead.

But the win was the Italian’s 173rd as Madrid coach, which puts Ancelotti second on the club’s all-time coaching win list, with only the legendary Miguel Muñoz, who coached the team between 1960 and 1974, having enjoyed more victories – a seemingly unbeatable total of 357 wins.

This is Ancelotti’s second spell in charge of Real. Overall, his trophy haul includes a La Liga title, two Copas del Rey, two Champions League wins in 2014 and 2022, and two Club World Cup wins in the same years.
