According to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, Bruno Genesio has rejected the opportunity to become the new manager of Besiktas. The former Rennes boss was the Turkish club’s priority target to take over as the manager at the Ataturk but Genesio has turned down their advances.
Talks had been ongoing between the former Lyon manager and Besiktas for over a week but the club were unable to persuade Genesio to move to Turkey. The Turkish giants are now pursuing former Ranger and Feyenoord manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst as their new head coach.
A return to Lyon off the table?
Following his departure at Rennes and the sacking of Fabio Grosso at Lyon, Genesio was heavily linked with a return to the Groupama Stadium with multiple reports naming him the frontrunner for the job. However, following the impressive turnaround in OL’s fortunes under interim boss Pierre Sage, a return to the dugout at Parc OL is off the table with Sage set to continue in his role, according to L’Équipe.
