Borussia Mönchengladbach rival Galatasaray for Omar Traoré

Borussia Mönchengladbach have held talks to sign Heidenheim’s Omar Traoré, according to Bild. However, the die Fohlen face competition from Bundesliga rivals Union Berlin, and Galatasaray to sign the Togolese defender.

Traoré – who played 30 Bundesliga games last season – is seen as a replacement for Stefan Lainer (32), who has joined RB Salzburg while the future of Joe Scally (22) also remains in doubt with the US international considering a departure before next year’s FIFA World Cup.

Traoré comes with European experience having featured eight times in the UEFA Europa Conference League last season, while also starting both legs of the Bundesliga playoff against Elversberg.

The 27-year-old is entering the final year of his contract and, per Transfermarkt, has a market value of €4m, a fee that would be conceivable for Borussia Mönchengladbach without the need for player departures.

An arrival at Gladbach would also see Traoré link back up with Tim Kleindienst, who joined die Fohlen last summer.
