Czech striker Tomas Cvancara – despite a very public rift at the end of last season – appears set to remain with his Bundesliga club for now. Borussia Mönchengladbach have mended fences with the 24-year-old. Cvancara’s recent absence from Gladbach training continued to fuel speculation that he would be offloaded this summer. As confirmed to Sport Bild by BMG sporting director Roland Virkus, however, the eight-times-capped Czech international was merely slightly ill.
Recent confirmation that lead striker Tim Kleindienst will remain sidelined through roughly one-third of the coming Bundesliga season hands Cvancara a chance to play at his preferred position. Moreover, the foals can hardly afford more public disputes with their players following the recent controversy involving midfielder Florian Neuhaus.
In any event, the German tabloid quotes Virkus as saying that club management sought out a direct exchange with Cvancara over the summer break. Even before the news of Kleindienst’s longer injury layoff and Neuhaus’ Mallorca shenanigans broke, the Niederrheiner sought a new beginning with their striker.
“We discussed the situation with Tomáš and his advisors,” Virkus is quoted by Sport Bild as saying. “We came to the conclusion that Tomas will get a new crack with us. He has enormous potential, which we continue to believe in.“
