Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer suffers set back in return from injury

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is suffering with another setback as he continues to battle with his return from injury.

The Rekordmeister are enjoying a successful start to the Bundesliga season as they currently sit top of the table, with back up goalkeeper Sven Ulreich enjoying a solid run of starting games.

However, fans are still anticipating the return of Manuel Neuer, who has made over 300 appearances as Bayern Munich’s goalkeeper across 12 years.

Neuer suffered a broken leg back in December 2022 and has been unable to compete in a match since.

There were plans though that Neuer would return to team training towards the end of this month but another delay has been put in place due to further discomfort with the goalkeeper.

On September 14, Thomas Tuchel announced: “He was already very far, now the plan is that he will return to goalkeeper training next week and then make the next attempt the week after next to be back in team training.”

According to BILD, Neuer was set to take part in first team training on Sunday but was not involved and continued to work on a separate pitch with goalkeeper coach Michael Rechner and fellow goalkeepers Max Schmidt and Daniel Peretz.

Schmidt and Peretz then went to join the first team for a game at the end of training whilst Neuer continued to train alone with Rechner.

Thomas Tuchel has recently explained the further delay on Neuer participating in team training. “The injury is not really an injury. There are more complaints. Calf complaints, that’s what I would call it. They are very diffuse which sometimes come and go which don’t have anything to do with jumping technique or muscle contraction. But they are simply there and disturbing.”

Neuer turned 37 years old in March and is running out of years to continue with his career but will have to be further patient for his return.

A return towards the end of the international break in October looks likely, but Bayern will be hoping for no more setbacks.
