A headline member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona this morning bid farewell to his teammates at the club’s training base.
That’s according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who points towards İlkay Gündoğan as the player in question.
The name of midfielder Gündoğan has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines across all of Spain over the course of the last couple of days.
This comes after confirmation was forthcoming that the Barcelona brass have come to the shock decision to allow the 33-year-old to move on.
In an effort to reduce their bloated wage bill, Deco and co. have informed Gündoğan that his services are no longer required.
The German, in turn, has opened negotiations with ex-club Manchester City, over a potential reunion.
And, if the latest word on the situation to have surfaced on Wednesday is anything to go by, it would appear that the transfer can now be considered as all but imminent.
As per a report from the aforementioned Fabrizio Romano:
‘İlkay Gündoğan has said goodbye to all his Barça teammates this morning while clubs are completing all the documents.’
The one-time Borussia Dortmund standout will depart the Camp Nou on a free transfer, through a mutual contract termination agreement.
