El Mundo report that Enríquez Negreira, former vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees, made a proposal to the Barcelona board in 2020. “I can help you with the VAR,” he said as per the report.
“In 2020, in a league won by Zidane’s Madrid with controversy over video refereeing, with me you would have done better… I can help you with VAR. If you are interested, contact me,” he said.
The Spanish outlet claim there was “no response” from Barça.
Negreira also said that he “had a hand” with those in charge of video refereeing and that he could help the club if they decided to continue the relationship.
Negreira made the offer for a new contract with Barcelona in 2020, two years after former club president Josep María Bartomeu stop using his services.
Former referee Negreira allegedly provided refereeing consultancy services to Barcelona in exchange for around €7m over a 17-year period.
