Arsenal’s Nicolas Pépé undergoes medical ahead of move to Beşiktaş

L’Equipe are reporting that out-of-favour Arsenal forward Nicolas Pépé (28) has agreed to leave the Gunners. The Ivory Coast international is reportedly undergoing a medical in Paris ahead of a move to Turkish Süper Lig club Beşiktaş.

Pépé is not part of Mikel Arteta’s plans for the future at Arsenal. The former Lille OSC striker took no significant part in Arsenal’s pre-season and did not make the squad in either of the Gunners’ first four Premier League games. Pépé joined INEOS-owned Ligue 1 club OGC Nice on loan last season and achieved a middling stint for Les Aiglons, logging eight goals in 28 appearances.

Pépé was tied to Arsenal with a contract that runs until 2024. It has been reported that the North London side and their striker were considering mutually terminating the latter’s contract. Now, it appears that the Gunners will recoup at least a small fraction of the €80m transfer fee they paid Lille back in 2019.

L’Equipe understands that Pépé initially turned down the opportunity to join the Black Eagles during the summer transfer window. The 28-year-old forward has reportedly changed his mind and decided to join the Istanbul-based club.
