Arsenal ‘weighed up’ deadline day bid for £100m star at the Emirates

Arsenal were weighing up a third offer for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo on deadline day, transfer insider Dean Jones has informed GiveMeSport.

The 21-year-old was the subject of two failed bids from the Gunners, who ended up signing Jorginho instead.

Arsenal transfer news – Moises Caicedo

CBS reporter Ben Jacobs told GMS on deadline day that Arsenal had definitely not gone back to Brighton with a third proposal for Caicedo.

Before that, the reliable Fabrizio Romano stated that the north London club had made two bids for the Ecuadorian, including one worth £70m.

Mikel Arteta would have been disappointed to have missed out on Caicedo, but he has at least been able to add Jorginho to his squad.

“We are so pleased to sign Jorginho and welcome him and his family to the club,” the Spaniard told Arsenal’s official website after the midfielder’s arrival at the Emirates.

What has Dean Jones said about Moises Caicedo and Arsenal?

According to The Times, Brighton had slapped a £100m price tag on Caicedo at one stage of the January transfer window. However, Jones has told GMS that no amount of money was going to be enough to get him out of the Amex Stadium on deadline day.

On Arsenal and Caicedo, the journalist said: “They were weighing up a third bid and were putting it together. Ultimately, that bid wasn’t going to be £80m.

“To be honest, once it came to deadline day itself, Brighton made it clear at the start of the day that the player was just not on the table. So even if they’d offered £80m on deadline day, they wouldn’t have got him.”

Was Arsenal’s transfer window still a success despite missing out on Moises Caicedo?

Arteta obviously would have loved to have added Caicedo to his squad. The Ecuador international is someone who can be very influential in the middle of the park.

For example, in Brighton’s impressive 3-0 win against Liverpool last month, he made three tackles. No player in Roberto De Zerbi’s team managed to make more, with Pascal Gross and Joel Veltman also recording the same amount on the day (via WhoScored).

What year was the club founded?

Again, though, Arsenal have still landed Jorginho, a very experienced midfielder, and Caicedo’s former Brighton team-mate Leandro Trossard, who is also very familiar with the Premier League.

Jakub Kiwior arrived, too, meaning that Arteta has managed to strengthen his defence, midfield and attack in the middle of a title race. All in all, it was a good transfer window for the Gunners.
