Arsenal have now reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for the signing of Piero Hincapie on loan, with an obligation to buy of around €52m (£45m), according to David Ornstein.
After failing to win the Premier League title during the 2024/2025 season, losing out to deserved champions Liverpool, the Gunners have invested significantly to try and go one step further this term. Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres are two of a host of new additions to have arrived through the door, and the north London club are still in the market for further reinforcements.
Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Christian Norgaard, Cristhian Mosquera, and Kepa Arrizabalaga are the others to have made the move to the Emirates Stadium this summer, with Arsenal’s recruitment team making a real statement of intent in the transfer market.
David Ornstein: Arsenal Reach Agreement to Sign Hincapie
Reporting for The Athletic, Ornstein has confirmed that Arsenal have reached an agreement to sign Hincapie on loan from Bayer Leverkusen. The Gunners have secured the defender for the season, but the loan move turns permanent next summer for a total fee of around £45m with a 10% sell-on clause.
Hincapie is a left-sided centre-back, capable of playing in the middle of defence as well as at left-back. Although he might initially struggle to break into the starting XI, considering the form of the likes of Riccardo Calafiori, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Gabriel, he’s clearly a signing with a long-term plan in mind considering the obligation to buy in the deal.
Hincapie has also signed a long-term contract with the club ahead of next summer. This could see one of Arsenal’s defenders head through the exit door, with GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs confirming that Jakub Kiwior can now make his way to Portuguese side Porto after Hincapie’s deal was agreed.
The Gunners are preparing to face Liverpool this weekend in their final Premier League game of August. It’s been an impressive start to the 2025/2026 season for Arsenal, winning both of their games without conceding a goal as they sit at the top of the table.
