Arsenal have emerged as one of the leading clubs vying to sign Sporting CP’s highly-rated winger, Geovany Quenda, according to Portuguese outlet O Jogo (PressReader Page 6).
The Guinea-Bissau-born star has rapidly risen through the ranks at the Portuguese outfit, catching the eye of several top European clubs with his exceptional talent and maturity.
Despite limited playing time this season, accumulating just 1,228 minutes, Quenda has made a significant impact whenever he’s been given the opportunity, racking up two goals and an assist.
His dribbling ability, blistering pace and eye for a pass fed comparisons with some of the game’s brightest young talents like Barcelona star Lamine Yamal and Chelsea’s Estevao Willian.
He recorded 20 goal contributions in 33 appearances for the under-23s last season while becoming the youngest player to turn out for the club’s ‘B’ team at 16.
After breaking out at the Under-17 European Championship, where Portugal reached the final, former Sporting manager Ruben Amorim took notice and gave him his shot in the first team, which he has repaid.
The Gunners could use a talent like Quenda behind right-winger Buakyo Saka, who is being overused by manager Mikel Arteta. The youngster could develop nicely behind the England international.
His versatility and technical proficiency align perfectly with Arteta’s style of play, making him an attractive proposition for the club.
However, Arsenal will face stiff competition from other major European clubs, including several Premier League rivals. Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool are interested in Quenda.
Sporting are expected to play hardball in negotiations. The Portuguese club will demand a significant fee for a player with such immense potential.
As the January transfer window approaches, the race for Quenda’s signature is set to intensify. Arsenal will need to act swiftly and decisively to secure the services of this promising young talent.
