Arsenal have reached an agreement in principle with Crystal Palace to sign Eberechi Eze, according to The Athletic.
The deal will be worth around £68 million, close to the value of his recently expired release clause and in line with the fee Tottenham Hotspur were ready to pay.
Personal terms are close to being finalised, and the 27-year-old should feature for Palace on Thursday before undergoing a medical ahead of his move.
Arsenal had been tracking him all summer, but did not make a move after Ethan Nwaneri renewed his contract.
Just when their arch-rivals thought they had a deal neatly tied up, the Gunners emerged to snap up the exciting attacking midfielder.
Eze will compete with Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard for the left-wing position. He can also play as a number eight in Mikel Arteta’s 4-3-3 set-up.
Acquiring the England international and boyhood Arsenal fan is a massive coup for the Gunners as they bid to fight for the Premier League title and compete on multiple fronts.
The former Queens Park Rangers star has bagged 40 goals and 28 assists in 168 appearances for Palace.
Eze registered 14 goals and 11 assists in 43 appearances as the Eagles lifted the FA Cup last season.
He has started the season on fire, scoring an excellent free-kick that was curiously disallowed as Palace held Chelsea to a draw on Premier League Matchday 1.
He put in a fantastic shift against the Blues.
Eze will become the club’s seventh summer signing after Kepa Arrizabalaga, Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera, Christian Norgaard and Martin Zubimendi.
