Apple TV in discussions to acquire Ligue 1 broadcasting rights

According to RMC Sport, Apple TV are in discussions with the LFP regarding the acquisition of the Ligue 1 broadcasting rights for the upcoming cycle (2024-2029).

The American giant initially showed no interest in acquiring the rights for the French top-flight, however, Apple TV have now made an enquiry to the LFP. Multiple phone calls have taken place between the two parties in these past few days. However, no offer has yet been made for the international rights. With few other sporting rights currently on offer, Apple’s interest in Ligue 1 has grown. Apple’s interest in Ligue 1 is good news with the LFP looking to receive nearly €800m for the broadcasting rights.

The LFP received no offers for the broadcasting rights in mid-October and the organisation is now negotiating directly with interested parties. Canal+, who have always bid for the broadcasting rights, did not do so this time around amidst an ongoing conflict with the LFP.  The international media rights tender closed on 2nd November.
