Antoine Griezmann set to start against Belgium following frustrations at being dropped

L’Équipe are reporting that Antoine Griezmann’s short exile from the starting lineup is set to end when France take on Belgium on the 1st of July. Griezmann should be back in the team for the Round of 16 match, although how Didier Deschamps will choose to use his Swiss army knife will have to remain to be seen.

Deschamps had been critical of his forward after his performance against the Netherlands, with the manager stating in a press conference attended by GFFN that it was “not his best match in blue” and that Griezmann has “had a busy season. In high-intensity matches, in the midfield, it isn’t easy.”

It was a criticism that preceded Griezmann being dropped for the final match of the group stages against Poland as Deschamps decided to rest his vice-captain, a decision that did not go down well with the forward who was reportedly left “disappointed” and “frustrated.”
