Anthony Gordon update emerges at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea’s latest offer for Everton winger Anthony Gordon was ‘much lower’ than the reported £60 million bid, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

Thomas Tuchel has overseen a busy few months at Stamford Bridge but can still add further to his squad ahead of the September 1 deadline.

What is the latest news on Gordon?

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea are now prepared to pay £60 million in order to bring the winger to west London before the window shuts.

The report states that Everton’s stance remains that the 21-year-old is not for sale while a new contract offer is also on the table for him at Goodison Park.

Meanwhile, Gordon has informed manager Frank Lampard that he wants to leave and join his boss’s former club, according to The Athletic, with the player of the belief that the move will help him break into Gareth Southgate’s England squad in time for the 2022 World Cup.

Everton are not ready to make the deal easy for Chelsea, however. It is understood that the Toffees will demand either Armando Broja or Conor Gallagher are included in any deal that sees Gordon move to Stamford Bridge.

What has Phillips said on the Gordon chase?

Phillips understands that the latest base fee offered for the four-cap England under-21 international is in fact much lower than the £60 million total quoted.

The journalist reports that, in its current form, Everton will not accept the deal with the transfer deadline on the horizon.

Phillips told GIVEMESPORT: “When I asked about this yesterday, I got told Chelsea’s latest offer was actually a base fee much lower than what’s been reported, around about £35 million, and the add-ons are what will actually take it up to £50 million. Chelsea are trying to go in with a low base fee. At the moment Everton have rejected it.”

Would Gordon be a good signing for Chelsea?

While the youngster is clearly very talented, it is hard to see how he would offer anything different to a player like Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The Cobham graduate is set to join Bayer Leverkusen on a season-long loan, but it seems a bizarre move to send him away and bring in a player of the same age for upwards of £50 million.

Nevertheless, Gordon has shown that he has what it takes to cut it in the Premier League, scoring four goals in 52 games.
