Ange Postecoglou May Already Have New Job After Spurs as Club ‘Make Contact’

Despite bringing Tottenham Hotspur their first trophy in 17 years when they lifted the Europa League, Ange Postecoglou was dismissed by the club just weeks after. The decision to let him go came as a result of their poor form in the Premier League, with Spurs finishing 17th in the table, well below where anyone expected them to be.

Despite their issues domestically, many thought the Australian deserved to keep his job due to the success he brought in Europe with the team. The likes of Alan Shearer blasted the class to sack him, while others thought it was the right move. Either way, Postecoglou won’t be too disheartened and the Australian could already be on the verge of a new job.

At the moment, Matthias Jaissle is Al-Ahli boss, but after the Saudi Pro League side finished fifth in the table this season, two spots below where they wound up last time out, his future is up in the air. There’s a strong chance he could be on the way out sooner rather than later and, according to David Ornstein, Al-Ahli have already made contact with Postecoglou about coming in and replacing Jaissle should he depart.

The move would give the Australian the chance to get back into football immediately, rather than dwell on his Spurs exit, but it would also see him get to work with stars such as Riyad Mahrez, Roberto Firmino, Ivan Toney and Franck Kessie. With the money that will likely be on the table too, it’s a lot to turn down, but only time will tell whether Postecoglou takes his talents to Saudi Arabia or not.

The head coach spent two seasons in North London, taking charge of 101 games and winning 47 of them in the process. After bringing Spurs a trophy for the first time in 17 years, doing something the likes of Harry Redknapp, Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte failed to do, it’s hard to imagine there won’t be plenty of other suitors chasing him down in the future either.
