Barcelona head coach Xavi has on Sunday provided an update on the future of midfield star Sergi Roberto.
The subject of Roberto’s plans beyond the summer has of course long taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital.
As much comes ahead of the imminent expiration of his contract terms with Barcelona.
The Blaugrana brass are long understood to have made clear their hopes of tying the 32-year-old down to a new deal, but, amid alleged rival interest from the likes of Girona and MLS, the intentions of Roberto himself have remained unclear.
On Sunday, the aforementioned Xavi therefore made use of the opportunity to send something of a public message to his side’s captain.
Speaking in a pre-match press conference ahead of Barca’s La Liga meeting with Valencia on Monday night, the Spanish tactician was drawn on Roberto’s precarious situation.
And Xavi went on to assure:
“I want him to renew his contract, but it depends on him. He knows my position. He can help us a lot. I hope he renews.”
