Sky Germany reports that VfB Stuttgart continue to look for potential replacements for Alexander Nübel with Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Moritz Nicolas one of the alternatives.
Nicolas is interested in leaving Gladbach in the summer if he is no longer number one at the club, with the return of Jonas Omlin from injury that is looking increasingly likely. The 26-year-old recently extended his contract at Gladbach until 2029 and does not have a release clause.
Previously Stuttgart had been linked to both Stefan Ortega of Manchester City as well as Nottingham Forest’s Odysseas Vlachodimos. However, the signing of either of them could prove too expensive for Stuttgart.
Sky Germany also reports that Stuttgart’s primary aim is to keep Nübel on loan for another season. A permanent move would not be feasible for Die Schwaben as it would be too expensive. An extension to Nübel’s loan at Stuttgart would also likely see his contract at Bayern Munich extended as it expires in 2025.
The club also face competition from Roma who have also shown interest in Nübel.
