Joan Laporta turned heads earlier this week when he claimed that Barcelona turned down an offer worth €200m for Lamine Yamal. The 16-year-old was been in sparkling form since breaking into the first team earlier this season, and club officials want to keep him under all and any circumstances.
While many found it hard to believe that an offer of that amount was received, let alone rejected, there certainly could have been some truth to it. This is because Fabrizio Romano has told The Daily Briefing that Paris Saint-Germain did approach Barcelona with a view to signing Lamine Yamal this summer.
“Joan Laporta will have raised some eyebrows with comments made in an interview, with the Barcelona president saying the club said no to a proposal worth €200m for Lamine Yamal. My sources have confirmed that the club that approached Barca for Yamal was Paris Saint-Germain – there is interest from the French giants, but at the moment I don’t have confirmation of an official or formal proposal.”
Barcelona do need to make sales this summer in order to ease their financial problems, but what’s clear is that Lamine Yamal is off-limits – and understandably so.
