Julian Nagelsmann has confirmed that he has picked Manuel Neuer ahead of Marc-Andre ter Stegen as Germany’s starting goalkeeper at Euro 2024.
Neuer has been ruled out of Germany’s upcoming warm-up friendlies against France and the Netherlands, but that will not change the decision, Nagelsmann told reporters at a press conference on Friday.
“We made the decision. Unfortunately Manu is injured. It’s ‘only’ a torn muscle, he won’t be out for eight months. It’s also about giving the players a certain amount of security,” said Nagelsmann.
“I also told Marc that I’m glad we still have a second world-class goalkeeper. Something can always happen. From Marc’s point of view, it’s good that he has the chance to be there now.
“But the decision has been made, I’m not going to change it because of a torn muscle fiber injury that will be over in eight days.”
