Speculation linking Alphonso Davies with Real Madrid has intensified of late, with a recent report from The Athletic claiming that the Bayern Munich left-back has already reached a verbal agreement with the Spanish giants.

On Tuesday, Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen and new board member for sport Max Eberl were asked about the speculation at a press conference.

“In Alphonso, we have a player who has developed excellently on the left flank, not only because of his speed, but also because of his character and his openness in recent years. We are talking to his agent. We’ll see how complicated it is,” Dreesen said, adding:

“Max [Eberl] will now be involved in the context. Christoph [Freund] has already talked about it. But part of rebuilding the squad and adding to the squad is looking at the big picture, and that depends on how the two of them see the future.”

With Davies’ contract due to expire in 2025, Bayern are naturally wary of losing the Canadian international for nothing and could opt to sell him in the summer if he turns down a new deal.

“We’ll discuss the current situation and then we’ll make a decision. Of course, it’s never nice to lose a player on a free transfer. No club wants that. I don’t think Bayern Munich want it either,” said Eberl.

“If you wanted to sell him, if you couldn’t get a contract extension, then of course you would have to act beforehand.”
