Borussia Dortmund players were jeered after squandering a 2-1 lead to lose 2-3 to Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga on Sunday at Signal Iduna Park.
In an interview after the game, Julian Brandt expressed his understanding for the disappointed BVB fans.
“I can understand the whistles because of the way the game went. I’m not in the mood for defeats and draws anymore. We need to win as soon as possible,” said a visibly dejected Brandt.
“The way the game turned out was absolutely stupid and completely unnecessary. We brought an opponent back to life with sloppy play. It’s madness.”
The defeat meant Dortmund missed out on a golden opportunity to capitalize on Leipzig’s loss to Bayern and Stuttgart’s draw with FC Köln in the race for Champions League spots.
“It’s very disappointing. We wanted to take an important step forward in our quest for fourth place,” said head coach Edin Terzic.
“We have to blame ourselves for this defeat because we showed our opponents that something was possible for them here.”
