Julien Fournier leaves OGC Nice

Nice-Matin are reporting that OGC Nice sporting director Julien Fournier has left the club due to a disagreement over the strategy of the club after over a decade at the Riviera club.

Fournier found himself in disagreement with the hierarchy at the club and has called time on his tenure at the club before the end of the current transfer window. He also found himself in conflict with now-former Nice manager Christophe Galtier and was vocal and public with his criticism of the PSG manager.

According to Nice-Matin, Fournier’s resignation comes “after a long reflection” and was “understood and accepted” by the INEOS owners, although it did come as a surprise. The decision has also displeased president Jean-Pierre Rivère, who now finds himself with multiple deals to handle.

He leaves the club mid-window with the club yet to complete any signings, although Borussia Mönchengldbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer (33) is rumored to be nearing a move. Fournier’s successor is expected to be named soon.
