It may not have been Real Madrid’s most spectacular victory of the season, but it was a crucial won as Carlo Ancelotti’s side beat Granada 2-0 on Saturday evening.
The victory makes it 15 consecutive wins over Granada when the two teams have met, even if it was a struggle to break down Granada’s deep defensive unit.
That was why Real Madrid looked lethargic and slow in the opening stages, with Alexander Medina making his debut in the Granada dugout and setting up his team to defend as a block.
In the end, it was Brahim Diaz who broke the deadlock on 26 minutes after a fine team move which saw Toni Kroos set him up to score.
Rodrygo’s form continues
After the break, it was in-form Rodrygo Goes who doubled the home team’s advantage to make it seven goals in five games for him personally.
It was another flowing team move, and he popped up at the far post after substitute goalkeeper Andre Ferreira palmed away Jude Bellingham’s initial effort on goal.
The 2-0 win was easy enough for the home team to see out, with Granada not recording a shot until the 87th minute and failing to register a single attempt on target.
The result means Real Madrid regain top spot from Girona on goal difference, level on 38 points from 15 games.
