Max Allegri after Juventus’ draw against Inter: “It was more important to not lose than to win”

Juventus manager Max Allegri believes that is more important for the Bianconeri to have not lost than to have not won against Inter in the Serie A today.

The game was billed to be a defining one in the season but it could not really live up to the billing, in terms of entertainment value, as both sides couldn’t create too many chances. After Dusan Vlahovic scored, Lautaro Martinez responded with an equaliser. But the second half proved to be devoid of too much goal mouth action.

Despite the draw, Juve boss Allegri seemed to be happy with the result. He spoke to DAZN (via TMW) and stated that it is important for the side to not have lost than to have won the tie at the Allianz Arena.

He said: “We conceded a foolish goal, especially after five minutes but we had already made mistakes in other situations in which we could have done better. When Inter opened up the field with the technique they came up withsome good plays, as also happened in the derby, Lautaro was good at scoring this goal. Maybe a foul could have been done earlier but the team put in a good performance, Juventus hadn’t played for three years for the first place. It wasn’t easy for anyone, including me, the boys were good, we have to stay calm and continue working. Now there’s Monza against whom we lost twice last season. We’ll need a tough match.”

When asked about whether the side will make improvements to the side in January, the Italian said: “The January transfer market doesn’t exist, I’m very happy with the team. The teams are made in June. Our goal is to take one step at a time, today it was more important not to lose than to win since it could have hurt us.”

Juve are currently at second in the Serie A and there is a only a two-point gap between them and league leaders Inter.
