Olympique Lyonnais owner John Textor has taken to social media to shut down rumours of Jorge Sampaoli replacing Fabio Grosso.
Reports emerged on Tuesday of Sampaoli making a shock move to the club. According to So Foot, OL had sounded out the idea of bringing the former Olympique de Marseille manager to the Groupama Stadium. Sampaoli has been out of work since leaving Flamengo in September.
However, Textor has denied the report and reiterated his support for Grosso. “Absurdly untrue. I have never contacted any coach as a replacement for Fabio. I remain very supportive of Fabio,” said the American on X (formerly Twitter).
Grosso arrived Lyon in September, replacing Laurent Blanc, who had been in the post for just under a year. However, there has not been any significant improvement in OL’s results. The club currently sit rock bottom of Ligue 1 and are engulfed in a relegation battle this season. However, the Italian, who previously played for OL in the 2000s, will seemingly be given the chance to right the ship.
