Julian Nagelsmann’s home debut as Germany coach didn’t exactly go according to plan, as his team suffered a shock 2-3 home defeat to a second-string Turkey side.
In a post-match interview, Germany captain Ilkay Gündogan gave his reasons for the defeat.
“We weren’t brave enough,” said Gündogan.
“We weren’t able to put pressure on their build-up play,” the FC Barcelona midfielder added.
“It feels like we lost the game in the first half.”
Germany opened the scoring through Kai Havertz before Turkey turned the game around to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.
Niclas Füllkrug levelled the scores early in the second half before the visitors sealed victory from the penalty spot.
