Via Kicker, Union Berlin director Christian Arbeit has confirmed that the club has suspended forward David Fofana for a week following Union’s 1-0 loss to Napoli on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old was substituted off in the 70th minute for Kevin Behrens and refused to shake the hand of coach Urs Fischer when coming off of the pitch. Fofana has since apologised to the Union coach but he now must train individually before being reintegrated into the team on Wednesday.
This suspension means that Fofana will miss both Union’s game against Werder Bremen on Saturday as well as their DFB Pokal match against VfB Stuttgart next Tuesday.
Since joining from Chelsea on loan in the summer, Fofana has played 11 times for Union across the Bundesliga, Champions League and DFB Pokal but has yet to score his first goal for the club. The 20-year-old initially had a bright start to his time in the capital but has slowly declined but this is likely due to Union themselves struggling for form.
