Paul Pogba risks 4-year ban after testosterone counter test returns positive result

According to Fabrizio Romano, Paul Pogba (30) has had a counter-test for testosterone return with a positive result following his request for the initial results to be tested again using a backup sample. The Juventus midfielder initially tested positive for testosterone following a routine anti-doping test after the Old Lady’s Serie A opening day fixture against Udinese. The former Manchester United midfielder was an unused substitute.

The Italian Ant-Doping Court has provisionally suspended the France international but he now could face a lengthy ban following this second consecutive positive result. The midfielder’s ban could reportedly be as long as four years based on the Italian authorities’ anti-doping rules. Pogba’s agent has reaffirmed that his client never intended to break the rules.

Juventus are now set to make a decision on whether to terminate Pogba’s contract with the possibility of such a ban looming. Following this latest development in the case, the 2018 World Cup winner will still be unable to participate in any form of footballing activity.
