Dutch midfielder Davie Klaassen on move to Inter: “I’m here because I want to win many trophies”

Following a transfer deadline day move from Ajax to Inter, Dutch midfielder Davie Klaassen provided his insight on his switch to the Nerazzurri.

Whilst coach Simone Inzaghi requested the acquisition of an additional midfielder prior to the window closing, the Beneamata managed to secure the 30 year-old on a free transfer as the Dutchman terminated his contract with Ajax, which was set to expire in the summer of 2024, and signed a two-year deal with the Milanese club worth €1.5m per-season.

Despite being short for time, Klaassen flew to Northern Italy yesterday to undergo his medical and managed to finalize his move to Inter over the line prior to the end of the transfer deadline day.

Last season, Klaasen tallied eight goals and three assists in 33 matches within the Everdise for Ajax.

Upon his arrival, the Dutch international touched upon his individual skills and how he can help Inzaghi’s side improve in order to compete for the league title and the Champions league within his first interview as an Inter player, as relayed by FcInter1908:

What are your main characteristics and what do you think you can bring to the team?

“I’m a complete player who can help the team, both offensively and defensively. I’m here because I want to win many trophies.”

You are a versatile player. You can play wider or more central. Which field position do you prefer?

“I prefer to play more in the center and I think this is my best position.”

Your nickname is “Mister One Nil” because you often score the first goal that unlocks the match. In general, you are a midfielder with a passion for goal. Last year you made ten across all competitions.

“I have always scored a lot in my career. I don’t know if it’s a coincidence, but many times I actually scored the first goal. And that’s why they gave me this nickname, which I’m very proud of.”

You played in Holland, England and Germany. What do you expect from the Italian championship?

“I expect to have fun. It’s a tough league and I’ve heard a lot of positive stories from some of my former team mates. Can’t wait to start playing.”
