Manchester City have announced on Tuesday that head coach Pep Guardiola has undergone surgery in Barcelona for a back problem and is expected to be out of action until after the international break in September.
According to City, Guardiola “has been suffering from severe back pain recently and flew to Barcelona to undergo emergency surgery by Dr. Mireia Illueca”. Mundo Deportivo report that the operation was a success and the former FC Barcelona boss will remain in Barcelona for rehabilitation over the next few weeks.
In his absence, Juanma Lillo, City’s assistant coach, will take charge of first-team affairs and manage the side for the upcoming Premier League matches against Sheffield United and Fulham.
