Kylian Mbappé open to contract renewal, PSG increasingly optimistic

Kylian Mbappé (24) has been reintegrated into the first-team set-up at Paris Saint-Germain, and according to Foot Mercato and RMC Sport, there is renewed optimism about a contract extension being signed.

After weeks of isolation, Mbappé returned to first-team training on Sunday. The France captain was omitted from PSG’s pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea, and upon the club’s return to Paris, he continued to train with the “undesirables.” This was to remain the case unless Mbappé signed an extension, preventing him from leaving on a free in the summer of 2024. Internal sources at the Ligue 1 club believed that Mbappé already had a pre-contract agreement to join Real Madrid at the end of the season.

However, following “very constructive, positive talks,” between PSG and the player, Mbappé returned to first-team training on Sunday. The official statement from the club is evidence of renewed optimism about a potential extension. According to Foot Mercato, Mbappé is now open to an extension, despite being publically opposed to the idea throughout the summer. Neymar’s potential departure is a factor in Mbappé’s reported change of heart, as is PSG’s summer recruitment. Mbappé welcomes the arrival of fellow France international Ousmane Dembélé, whose move to the Parc des Princes was officialised yesterday. They sat next to each other at yesterday’s draw between PSG and FC Lorient.

PSG are now optimistic that Mbappé will sign an extension, which in turn will facilitate a return to the starting XI.
