Hamburger SV have today announced the signing of Laszlo Benes from Borussia Mönchengladbach.

The 24-year-old midfielder has penned a four-year contract with the 2. Bundesliga outfit.

“The signing of Laszlo fully fits our path and our transfer strategy. Despite his young age, he has already gained a lot of experience, and we now want to continue his development together,” said HSV board member Jonas Boldt about Benes, who has played 65 games for Gladbach.

“It is certainly no disadvantage that [HSV coach] Tim Walter already knows Laszlo. With his technical and strategic skills, he can help us both in open play and from set pieces.”

Despite having been heavily linked with a move away from the club, Sonny Kittel will be among Benes’ new teammates.

The 29-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the club following his impressive 2021/22 campaign, but HSV have now announced that he will stay put after his proposed move to the United States fell through.

“We happily accept the turnaround around the possible transfer, as we never wanted to proactively give Sonny away anyway. With his qualities, he can make a decisive contribution to achieving our goals in the coming season, which is why we are very motivated to continue our cooperation on both sides,” stated Boldt.
