In a recent report, The Daily Mail claimed that Everton have held further talks for Tottenham Hotspur ace Harry Winks. However, it is understood that the deal is not at an advanced stage despite the Toffees showing interest in recruiting the English midfielder this summer.

Winks’ Limited Role At The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Winks has played a sporadic role for Spurs in the previous campaign as he struggled to earn regular game time under the stewardship of Antonio Conte. The 26-year-old featured in 30 matches for the North London club last season, netting one goal and securing two assists across all competitions.

The ten-time England international made most of his league appearances off the bench which explains why he only averaged 0.8 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 0.6 key passes per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He was even tidy with his ball distribution after making 88.2% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

What Will Winks Add To Everton Boss Frank Lampard’s Side?

Winks can get stuck in with some crunching tackles to make life tough for the opposition at the centre of the park. He is usually quick to scan the danger and has got a good work rate. The English talent can even influence the game in the final third but needs to improve his productivity in front of the opposition goal. He mainly operates as a box-to-box midfielder but can even play as a defensive midfielder if required.

At 26, Winks is currently in his prime and is well-equipped to make an instant impact at Everton if Frank Lampard is willing to offer him regular playing opportunities in the coming seasons.

Winks will inject more energy and dynamism into the Toffees‘ midfield department and increase competition for places within Lampard’s match-day squad. However, there are some question marks over whether the England international would be able to be consistent at Goodison Park. Still, the pros outweigh the cons of signing Winks as he could have a good resale value in the future especially if the Merseyside outfit can arrange a cut-price move for him this summer.
