Bild report this evening that Eric Martel has completed his move from RB Leipzig to FC Köln.
The 20-year-old has passed his medical check and signed a contract. Martel will join the Bundesliga club for a reported €1.2m as he entered the final year of his contract at Leipzig.
Martel spent last season on loan at Austria Wien, playing 33 games in all competitions. Also a regular in Germany’s U21 team, the defensive-midfield arrives at Köln as a replacement for Salih Özcan, who joined Borussia Dortmund for around €6m.
Although we’re still waiting on an official announcement, there’s a total agreement between all parties. Martel would become Steffen Baumgart’s sixth signing of the summer following Linton Maina, Kristian Pedersen, Denis Huseinbasic, Steffen Tigges and the permanent signing of Luca Kilian.
Baumgart’s side will also be playing European football next since for the first time since 2017 after their qualified for the UEFA Conference League.
