£26m star ‘destined to leave’ Hotspur Way

Tottenham Hotspur attackers Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura could both depart the club this summer, according to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

Spurs have already brought in several new signings in the current window and now could focus their attention on shifting some fringe players out of Hotspur Way.

What is the latest news involving Spurs?

Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic and Yves Bissouma have already been snapped up by the Tottenham hierarchy, adding significant strength to Antonio Conte’s first-team squad.

And Football.London claim Everton’s Richarlison is a player that the capital club’s director of football Fabio Paratici ‘is a fan of’.

It’s believed that alongside a left-sided centre-back, bolstering the forward line is high up on the priority list for Paratici, meaning a move for the Brazil international could well be on the cards.

However, bringing in Richarlison may only be feasible after Tottenham have offloaded some of the current options low down on Conte’s pecking order.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that a deal to take Bergwijn to Ajax is ‘absolutely on’ with all parties still ‘in contact’ as they work towards reaching a conclusion.

What has Taylor said about Spurs?

Moura recently stated in an interview that it is ‘very likely’ he will remain in north London next season, yet Bergwijn has been the subject of interest from Ajax since January.

And Taylor reckons that the Netherlands international is certain to depart Spurs, and despite his recent comments, has refused to rule out Moura following him out the exit door.

He told GiveMeSport: “So, I think it could hinge on outgoings. Steven Bergwijn looks destined to leave but nothing has been formalised yet. Lucas Moura is one as well that, could you say he’s definitely going to be at Spurs next year? I don’t think you could.”

How big a loss would Bergwijn and Moura be?

Bergwijn, who is valued at £26m by CIES, has struggled to find his best form at Tottenham, registering just eight goals and 10 assists in 83 appearances across all competitions.

The 24-year-old started only four Premier League games last term, and although undoubtedly has potential, a fresh start may be the best option for his career.

Moura, on the other hand, is at the opposite end of his career being Bergwijn’s senior by five years, and could still prove to be a useful option for Conte.

Valued at £17m by CIES, the Brazil international still provided 14 goal contributions throughout 2021/22 despite Dejan Kulusevski taking his starting berth, showing his worth as a valuable squad player.
