Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has explained why Raphael Guerreiro’s contract will not be extended.

After the last Bundesliga match of the season, it was announced that Raphael Guerreiro will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of June.
In an interview with the German newspaper Bild, Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl has now revealed why the parties didn’t come to an agreement on a new contract.
“We made ‘Rapha’ an financially improved offer for two years plus an option. The discussions were always fair and correct. We would have liked to keep him, but in the end we couldn’t agree.
“Also in this respect we stand for a clear plan, a direction, because Rapha will be 30 years old and wanted a contract with an even longer term”.
Guerreiro has spent the last seven years with Dortmund.
