Former Nice manager Lucien Favre considering retirement

Swiss manager Lucien Favre is considering putting an end to his coaching career, according to a report from Foot Mercato. The 65-year-old head coach is a free agent since his dismissal as Nice boss earlier this season. When Les Aiglons agreed to let go of Christophe Galtier last year, the INEOS-owned club turned to the Swiss head coach who had previously been in the Nice dugout from 2016 to 2018. Favre led Nice to a remarkable third-place finish during his first season at the Allianz Riviera. He failed to kick on during his second season at Nice but eventually joined Borussia Dortmund.

However, Favre’s recent return to Nice last summer has been underwhelming at best. The Swiss manager was dismissed after his side got knocked out of the Coupe de France by third-tier side Puy-en-Velay and with Nice lying in a disappointing 11th place in the league standings. He was replaced by assistant coach Didier Digard, who turned the club’s favours around from the get-go. However, Nice’s results dipped recently with the club sitting now sitting 10th. Digard is not expected to extend his stay in the dugout with the INEOS hierarchy targeting former Chelsea manager Graham Potter to replace him after this season is over.
