The battle for the Pichichi Trophy has become more heated than ever as the season draws to a close. Karim Benzema‘s goalscoring comeback has him closing in on Robert Lewandowski, who has been the outright leader for much of the campaign, although his position now looks a lot less secure.
With his goal against Real Betis, Robert Lewandowski has now scored 19 goals in LaLiga Santander this season. The Pole has scored in two consecutive games, against Rayo and Betis, and has regained some momentum after a poor run of form in front of goal.
Benzema, meanwhile, with his three goals against Almeria, moved to within one goal of the Barcelona striker. The Frenchman has scored two hat-tricks in recent matches, the first coming against Real Valladolid and the one against Rubi‘s side on Matchday 32 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
This assault on the Pichichi trophy is setting up a direct competition between Lewandowski and the French forward in the final weeks of the season.
