Al-Wehda’s Jean-David Beauguel on “contemptuous” Cristiano Ronaldo: “He’s annoyed, yelling at his teammates.”

French Al-Wehda striker Jean-David Beauguel (31) scored the winning goal on Monday during the Saudi Arabian Cup semi-final against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr. The former Toulouse youth product struck a decisive scissor kick to give his side an early lead. Despite being a man down, Al-Wehda held on to qualify for the Saudi Arabian Cup final, in which they will face Al-Hilal. Beauguel spoke to L’Equipe in the aftermath of the game and shed light on what it’s like to share the pitch with Ronaldo. The Portuguese 5-times Ballon d’Or winner is one of Beauguel’s idols.

I was a little disappointed. At the end of the game, I told him that I was a big fan and asked for his jersey. He shook my hand without really looking at me, with a very contemptuous air”, Beauguel said. The Frenchman said he was a bit surprised by Ronaldo’s demeanour, although he understood that the latter was disappointed with his side’s loss. Beauguel then provided an account of the former Real Madrid and Manchester United forward’s on-pitch behaviour. “He’s annoyed, yelling at his teammates.”

Ronaldo joined Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr in January after a bombastic interview criticising his then-current club, Manchester United, saw him leave the Premier League side. Since making the move to the Middle East, the former Real Madrid forward has scored 11 goals in 11 Saudi Pro League games.
