PSG considering move to bring back Xavi Simons

Having returned to his home country last summer, the 19-year-old Xavi Simons has enjoyed an emphatic breakout year so far with PSV Eindhoven. The midfielder had made 6 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain under Mauricio Pochettino, a shortage of playing time which prompted his departure from the French capital three years after first arriving from Barcelona.

His form this season has inevitably attracted interest from around the continent. According to Le Parisien, via local press, the Dutchman’s free transfer from PSG included a buy-back clause, valid for this summer only, worth €12m – provided the midfielder himself agrees on a return.

Simons, though, is said to be unlikely to accept a swift return to a club where he was never really given a chance. PSG are unlikely to need yet another midfield option this summer, even if the teenager – he turns 20 tomorrow –  can also play on both wings. In any case, the club remain in contact with his entourage – he has the same agent as Marco Verratti, in Rafaela Pimenta. The PSG management, and in particular Sporting Advisor Luís Campos, rate Simons highly and are considering bringing him back. However, the Portuguese director will be waiting to get a clearer idea of the shape of next season’s squad before making a move.
