Available on a free courtesy of an expiring contract, Dortmund defender Felix Passlack will suit up for VfL Bochum next season. The Revierklub confirmed Passlack’s capture on Thursday. The 24-year-old former German youth international – loaned out three times by his current club – only made two appearances for the BVB this season.

Passlack primarily plays as a right back, but does have some experience working on the left. Though he has long since ceased play much of a role in Dortmund, he has made 54 professional appearances for one of Germany’s largest clubs across all competitions. VfL technical director Marc Lettau – standing in for the on-hiatus Patrick Fabian – referenced this in a statement accompanying the signing.

“Felix has already played in the Bundesliga, Champions League and Europa League in his younger years, as well as gaining experience abroad,” Lettau remarked, “We are delighted to have signed a child of the Ruhr region and are convinced that he will further increase our quality on the flanks.”

“I am delighted that it has worked out with VfL,” the player himself added, “The people responsible in Bochum have made a lot of effort to recruit me and have shown me the sporting prospects. That’s why I decided early on to join VfL. It’s nice that I can stay in the area.”

Passlack is a native of NRW’s Bottrop. He joined the BVB youth ranks after spending time in the Bottrop and Rot-Weiß Oberhausen academies. He made his professional debut for Dortmund at the age of 17 and has represented Germany at all youth levels.
