Thierry Henry: “I would like Lionel Messi to finish his career at Barcelona.”

Former Barcelona and Arsenal striker Thierry Henry has shared his opinion on Lionel Messi’s future, stating that he would like to see the Argentine finish his career at Barcelona on Amazon Prime Video. Messi, who currently plays for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), has a contract with the French club until June 2023, with an option to extend for an additional year.

Speaking as a pundit on Prime Video ahead of Paris Saint-Germain’s match against Lyon this evening, Henry expressed his desire to see Messi return to Barcelona, where he won numerous trophies and established himself as one of the greatest footballers of all time. “I would like to see him finish his career at Barça, it’s a wish,” said Henry. “I’m not saying he should leave PSG or not leave PSG. I’m happy to see him in the French league. But the boos last time didn’t help. Thirteen goals, thirteen assists (in Ligue 1 this season), we’re talking about the current best player in the world, OK?”

Henry, who played alongside Messi at Barcelona from 2007 to 2010, cited his love for the sport and Messi’s contributions to Barcelona as reasons for his stance. “It’s about the love of the game, for what he did for this club,” he said. “He didn’t leave as he should have. It’s something that still bothers me, and I think it bothers him too.”

Messi left Barcelona in 2021, ending a 21-year association with the Catalan club. Despite his departure, he remains one of the greatest players in Barcelona’s history, having won 10 La Liga titles, seven Copa del Reys, and four Champions League titles during his time there.
