Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi could seek an exit from San Siro in the summer, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
Inzaghi has come under scrutiny following an underwhelming campaign in Serie A, although he has exceeded expectations in the Champions League.
The Italian gaffer deserves the credit for leading the Nerazzurri to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, but there is a gulf between the performances in the continental competition and Serie A.
Inter fell short against Juventus in the derby over the weekend, which adds to their ninth overall defeat in Serie A this season.
They are third in the table, and the Scudetto is out of their reach, with Napoli sitting 19 points clear at the top.
Inter’s recent struggles also indicate their place in the top four is not guaranteed, and they need to be at their best for the remaining games to avoid such a scenario.
Speaking on Tuttomercatoweb, Di Marizo claimed that the Nerazzurri and Inzaghi could part ways in the summer, notwithstanding how far the club would go in the Champions League.
The Italian transfer expert also added that Thiago Motta is a leading candidate for the managerial job should the former Lazio gaffer leave this summer.
Motta, a former Nerazzurri, has been doing an impressive job with Bologna, amassing great results against Inter and Lazio in Serie A in recent weeks.
His work doesn’t go unnoticed, as Europe’s top clubs are keeping close tabs on him, with Inter and Paris Saint-Germain among them.
PSG are also looking for a new manager in the summer after being disappointed with Christophe Galtier’s reign this season, identifying Motta as a potential candidate.
Inzaghi will look to take advantage of the international break as a breathing space and bounce back stronger against Fiorentina on April 1.
