Nantes player attacked during French youth cup game

Ouest-France report this morning that a Nantes player was threatened by a man with a knife at half-time during their French youth cup (Coupe Gambardella) match against Monaco on Sunday afternoon.

The quarter-final clash, which the visitors Monaco eventually won 1-0, saw a fight break out at half-time in the stands involving around 20 people. One of the Nantes’ youth players was hit and threatened by a man holding a knife. After the incident, the player in question, who was reportedly not injured, went into the dressing room to hide, while stewards looked to defuse the situation.

The attacker left the scene in the meantime, before five police squads were able to arrive at the stadium to supervise the rest of the game. The Principality side eventually scored on the hour mark to secure a semi-final spot. The reasons that led to the fight breaking out remain unknown as of this morning, while the youth player has decided against initiating legal proceedings.
