In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo claimed that Manchester City are eyeing a move for Crystal Palace full-back Tyrick Mitchell. It is understood that Man City have identified the English talent as a replacement for Oleksandr Zinchenko who could be sold this summer.
Mitchell’s Impressive Numbers In English Football
Mitchell had a decent campaign at Selhurst Park as he put in plenty of solid displays on the left side of Patrick Viera’s defence. The 22-year-old was involved in 41 matches for the Eagles in the previous campaign, picking up two assists in the process on all fronts.
The London-born talent proved himself to be a valuable contributor at the back based on his average of 2.9 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 2.3 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, he needs to take care of the ball well from the back, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 71.9% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Is Mitchell A Good Choice For Manchester City?
Mitchell is a solid tackler of the ball and can make some important interceptions for his team on the defensive end of the field. He has got the pace to make a few recovering runs at the back and doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed. The English sensation can even create a few decent chances for his teammates in the opponent’s half but needs to be more productive with his offensive contributions.
At 22, Mitchell has got a bright future ahead of him and could go on to become a real star at the Etihad Stadium if Pep Guardiola decides to acquire his services this summer.
Mitchell is good enough to fight for a regular starting spot at Man City next season and could help the Premier League champions compete for multiple trophies over the next few years. We can expect him to serve as a good replacement for Oleksandr Zinchenko, who has struggled to be consistent at times for Man City last season. All in all, the Crystal Palace left-back would be a decent choice for the Mancunian outfit to consider before the start of the new campaign.
