After a disappointing performance in the club’s first game of the year against Cacereño in the Copa del Rey, Eden Hazard sprained his ankle.
The Belgian forward has not been included in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for the league clash against Mallorca on Sunday due to another setback and will be left out again, this time with a knee injury, according to a statement released by Real Madrid on Saturday.
“After the tests carried out today on Eden Hazard by Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with patellar tendinosis in his left knee and is under observation,” the statement read.
Hazard’s last league game with Los Blancos came on 11 September in a 4-1 win over Mallorca at the Santiago Bernabeu. He has only played a total of 296 minutes in the 2022-23 campaign.
Madrid head into the game on Sunday five points behind table-toppers Barcelona, while Mallorca sit in 10th with two wins from four since the start of the new year.
