Colombian U20 captain Gustavo Puerta will nevertheless spend at least the next six months on loan at 1. FC Nürnberg.
“[Gustavo is] very combative player who has great potential at the six and eight positions,” sporting director Simon Rolfes noted in a statement released by the club, “We have had a good relationship with 1. FC Nürnberg for a long time and have reached a mutually beneficial agreement.
“The club gets a strong player with development potential,” Rolfes continued, “Gustavo can acclimatize here in Germany at a very high level and gain the necessary playing experience. We are convinced that he has a promising career ahead of him.”
“It speaks for “der Klub” [as Nürnberg is referred to] that we can implement such models with established Bundesliga clubs,” Nürnberg sporting direct Dieter Hecking added, “In this context, we thank Bayer Leverkusen for their trust.”
