RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo will be missing for several weeks due to a torn fibre injury, the Saxons may look to the transfer market for a replacement, according to Bild.
Olmo was substituted at halftime in Leipzig’s 2-1 win over VfB Stuttgart last weekend. Tests have confirmed the creative midfielder will be absent for several weeks.
As per the report, Leipzig may look to make a quick purchase in order to find a temporary replacement for the Spanish international.
Bild cites Italian news agency Calciomercato, which reported that the German club inquired about Roma’s Nicolò Zaniolo (23) a few weeks ago. Playing in a similar role to Olmo, Zaniolo has 42 goal involvements in 128 games for Roma.
Roma head coach Jose Mourinho spoke about Zaniolo’s desire to leave: “He told me, the club and his teammates that he didn’t want to play for Roma anymore. He said he didn’t want to come back and play with the team, he didn’t want to train with the team.”
Previously, Premier League side AFC Bournemouth reached an agreement for Zaniolo after offering €30m. However, the player did not want the move. Perhaps the midfielder will be tempted by Champions League football and the chance to win the Bundesliga.
