As reported by Sport1, Schalke 04 are close to signing Wilson Isidor from Lokomotiv Moscow. The winger has a verbal agreement with the royal blues and is keen to move to Germany after feeling increasingly uncomfortable in the Russian capital.
However, both Schalke and Lokomotiv still need to come to a financial agreement. Isidor has also given his current club his word that he would not terminate his contract, which foreign players can do following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year.
Due to Schalke’s poor financial situation, the possibility of a loan move is increasingly likely. With over €180m worth of debt already, the danger of Schalke spending more and still failing to stay up could have serious consequences. If such a situation were to occur, it could jeopardise Schalke from obtaining a license for the 2. Bundesliga.
Schalke head coach Thomas Reis has also commented on the transfer situation: “I know this player. He definitely has a very good dynamic. As long as January 31 isn’t over, it’s our turn to strengthen the squad selectively.”
